With winter here, I’m sure you want to be as warm as possible, but at the same time, you don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on heating either. Your insulation has a huge influence on how large your heating bill is at the end of the month. No matter how efficient your heater is, if the insulation is lacking, you’re losing heat as quickly as it is being generated.

You measure how well insulation prevents temperature exchange with a measurement called R-value. When buying insulation you will find this listed on the insulation, but it is not the only factor that has an impact on the efficiency of your insulation. Cracks and holes in the walls will lower it, and so will compressed or wet insulation. This is why a wall as a whole can have a different R-value than the individual sheets of insulation. Insulation will benefit you year round, since it will keep your cool air inside, as well as, block noise from the outside.
